Frank & Steve

Dr Frankenstein has been at it again!

This time he has resurected twins Frank & Steve but unfortunately the Dr was only able to capture enough lightning to partially revive them.

Even half alive, the brothers knew it was not wise to stick around and find out what else the Dr had in store for them.

Can you help Frank & Steve escape Dr Frankenstein's castle?

It won't be easy as you will only be able to control one brother at a time and there are traps and unfriendly creatures in every room.

To clear each room you will have to pick up the door key and then guide Frank & Steve to the exit.

Good luck!

Light sensitivity warning: There are lightning flashes on the intro screen randomly until the main menu is opened and also in the story animation.

This game is best played in full screen mode. Please either click on the 'Enter fullscreen' button in the bottom right of the game view or select 'Display: Fullscreen' in the game's Settings.

In Development

Frank & Steve is a puzzle platformer inspired by 8-bit titles from the mid 1980s, such as Manic Miner, but more focused on solving puzzles than making pixel perfect jumps. The graphics are styled after the ZX Spectrum, with a hint of Commodore 64 for the four colour sprites. Each room is self contained and has to be cleared before moving on to the next one. The jumping is old style too, meaning you cannot change direction while in the air. The game is still in development but this demo is fully playable with 25 rooms and short intro story and ending cut scenes.

I hope to add the following features to the finished game:

  • A total of 40 rooms.
  • A map showing progress through the castle which will be displayed after completing each room.
  • Music on the intro screen and optionally playable in game.
  • A new game mechanic where the player will be able to temporarily control both Frank & Steve at the same time to solve some puzzles.
  • More sound effects and background art.
